The Montemarcello-Magra Park was established as a single entity in 1995, the year in which the previous Magra River Park (created in 1982) and the Montemarcello Protected Area (created in 1985) were merged.<\/p>\n\n
The Montemarcello-Magra Park currently covers an area of over 4000 hectares, covering the territory of 18 municipalities scattered between the Vara and Magra valleys (Ameglia, Arcola, Beverino, Bolano, Borghetto Vara, Brugnato, Calice al Cornoviglio, Carro, Carrodano, Follo, Lerici, Pignone, Ricc\u00f2 del Golfo, Rocchetta Vara, Santo Stefano Magra, Sarzana, Sesta Godano and Vezzano Ligure). The area is rich in natural, historical and cultural attractions. <\/p>\n\n
The Park Authority’s primary purpose is to protect the river and safeguard its wildlife and botanical heritage, and it regulates and encourages agricultural activity, respecting traditional characteristics.<\/p>\n\n
The socio-economic development of the resident population is promoted through a correct use of natural resources, also by carrying out naturalistic-environmental recovery measures in areas where human activity has produced devastating effects.<\/p>\n\n
The park’s territory is highly heterogeneous: from the coastal landscape with its splendid seaside villages and enchanting beaches, we move on to the Val di Magra, with its environments rich in biodiversity; moving further inland we reach the green and peaceful hills of the Val di Vara. In addition to the river area of great naturalistic and historical-cultural value is the Caprione Promontory, an ideal starting point for many excursions. <\/p>\n\n
